The United Kingdom is a country in north-western Europe. It is bordered to the south by the English Channel; to the east by the North Sea; to the west by the Irish Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.

The UK is made up of four constituent countries, England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. Each has its own system of administrative and geographic demarcation.

The UK has a total area of approximately 245,000 km², almost a quarter-of-a-million square kilometres.

The UK is a developed country, with the world's sixth largest economy by nominal GDP and the sixth largest by purchasing power parity. It was the world's first industrialised country and the world's foremost power during the 19th and early 20th centuries, but the economic and social cost of two world wars and the decline of its empire in the latter half of the 20th century diminished its leading role in global affairs.

The UK nevertheless remains a great power with leading economic, cultural, military, scientific and political influence. It is a recognized nuclear weapons state while its military expenditure ranks third or fourth in the world, depending on the method of calculation. It is a Member State of the European Union, a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, a member of the Commonwealth of Nations, G8, G20, NATO, OECD and the World Trade Organization.

Economy

The UK is one of the world's most globalised countries. London is the world's largest financial centre alongside New York, has the largest city GDP in Europe and is home to the headquarters of more than 100 of Europe's 500 largest companies. The aerospace industry of the UK is the second- or third-largest aerospace industry in the world, depending upon the method of measurement.

The economy of the United Kingdom of Great Britain includes the economies of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The Isle of Man and the Channel Isles are part of the British Isles and have offshore banking status.

The UK has a population of 61m and a GDP per capita is US$37.4k, which makes it the 30th richest country in the world, above the European Union average of US$33.8k.

UK GDP by industrial sector:

  • Services Sector - 76.2 per cent of UK GDP
  • Industry & Manufacturing - 22.8 per cent of UK GDP
  • Agriculture - 0.9 per cent of UK GDP

The U.K. economy has grown 2.8% since the end of the recession; the UK economy has recovered twice as fast as expected so far. The UK is currently ranked fourth in the world (and first in Europe) in the World Bank's Ease of Doing Business Index .

Language

The main language spoken in Britain is English, although several other languages are spoken too. Over 250 languages are spoken in London, making the capital the most linguistically diverse city in the world.

More than 10% of primary children and 9% of secondary pupils do not have English as their first language.

Currency

Britain's currency is based on the pound sterling (£) which is divided into one hundred pence (100p). The coin denominations are 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 and £2. The most common bank notes are £5, £10 and £20, though they do go higher. The cost of living varies from one part of the UK to another. Generally it is more expensive to live in London and the south-east of England, and cheaper up north.

Culture

The British are said to be reserved in manners, dress and speech. They are famous for their politeness, self-discipline and especially for their sense of humour. British people have a strong sense of humour which sometimes can be hard for foreigners to understand.

Britain is a country of mixed cultures. London has the largest non-white population of any European city and over 250 languages are spoken there.

The UK has a point based system (PBS) under which migrants are assessed for them to live, work, study or settle in the UK. The new PBS is aimed at identifying and attracting qualified migrants and to develop a more efficient, transparent and objective application process. The system consists of Five Tiers and each Tier has different point requirements.

Points are generally granted for criteria such as age, salary, experience and qualifications.

The Five Tiers

The points-based system consists of five tiers. These are:
Tier 1 - highly skilled workers, investors, entrepreneurs, post study work
Tier 2 - skilled workers with a job offer from a UK employer
Tier 3 - low skilled workers filling specific temporary labour shortages (this is currently suspended)
Tier 4 - students
Tier 5 - youth mobility and temporary workers

Points Based Test

There is a pass mark for each category which has to be met at the time of a new application or at the time of renewal of the visa. Points are earned for the following:

  • Age
  • Qualifications,
  • Previous Earnings
  • UK Experience
  • 10 points are granted for those competent with the English language
  • 10 points are granted for funds that are required for the individual to support himself and his family while in the UK. The figure is specified for each category.

Sponsors

Those applying under any tier except tier 1 & Tier 5 Youth Mobility will need to be sponsored in order for their application to be successful. Sponsors are usually UK organizations / employers / Colleges & Universities (in case of students)

What are Migration Jobs?

  1. Migration Jobs are those occupations which are considered in demand by the government itself.
  2. Some skills or expertise cannot be sourced locally. They need to be imported.
  3. So the government encourages those workers or professionals with a specific profile to come and settle in the country.
  4. In this case, the government is the sponsor of your permanent visa.
  5. Y-Axis is the first jobsite to identify these kind of vacancies and post them on a jobsite.
  6. To apply for a migration job, you should first find out if you are eligible.
  7. If you are, you should file a petition with the Migration Authority of that country.
  8. The time could range from 1 month to 3 years.
  9. But once your petition is approved, you get a visa which is called a Permanent Resident(PR) Visa or what is also popularly known as a Green Card.
  10. This visa offers you work authorization and the allows you to come with your family and settle down.
  11. You will need to come into the country to find the actual job.
  12. The advantage you will have as a jobseeker is that you will be able to apply for job which otherwise would not have been open to you.
  13. So study a Migration Job if you find one.
  14. Ask Y-Axis to technically evaluate you before you can invest in the migration petition.
  15. But it is certainly the smartest way to apply for an overseas job.
